Help & FAQ
Recognize faults. React correctly.
Practical guidance for common device problems, maintenance and initial assessment. If you are unsure, it is better to have the device checked than to worsen damage through further testing.
Immediate actions – what to do when …?
In these cases, what you do in the first few minutes often matters.
What should I do after liquid damage?
Switch the device off immediately and stop testing it. Remove the charger, cables and connected accessories. Do not charge it or repeatedly power it on to see whether it still works.
Do not use a hair dryer, oven or other strong heat. Rice is not a reliable repair method either. Liquid can leave residues and cause corrosion inside the device even when the outside already appears dry.
With salt water, drinks or other sugary or mineral-containing liquids, prompt inspection is particularly important. If the device still works, back up data only if this can be done without further charging or prolonged use.
Wichtig: If the battery becomes unusually hot, the device swells or smells chemical: stop using and charging it.

What should I do if the display is cracked?
First check whether only a screen protector is damaged or the actual display. If the image and touch work fully and there are no black spots, lines or flickering areas, the device can often still be used carefully.
With sharp glass fragments, ghost touches, black spots, green lines, flickering or failing display areas, the display should be checked promptly. Do not press on the damaged area and keep moisture away.
If the device can still be operated normally, create a backup before repair if possible.

What should I do if the charging port is loose or only charges at a certain angle?
First test another known-good cable and power adapter. Compacted dust or lint often sits inside the port and prevents the connector from seating fully.
Do not poke inside the port with needles, paper clips or other metal objects. If the connector is visibly bent, moves inside the device, becomes very hot or works only under pressure or at a certain angle despite a clean port, it should be inspected.
A loose connection may simply be a dirty port, but it can also be a mechanically damaged port module or a broken solder joint.
What should I do with a damaged cable?
A typical sign is charging or data connection cutting in and out when the cable moves. A visible kink, exposed conductors or strong heating are additional warning signs.
Compare with a known-good cable suitable for the device. Replace damaged power and charging cables instead of continuing to use them with tape.
If several cables only work at a certain angle, the fault is more likely in the device port than in the cable.
What should I do if the battery swells?
Do not continue charging or using the device if possible. Do not press, bend, puncture or pry out a swollen battery yourself.
Signs can include a lifted display or case, a widening gap, unusual heat or a deformed back. The device should be professionally inspected promptly and the battery disposed of appropriately.
Wichtig: A swollen lithium battery is not a normal wear condition and should not remain in use.

Assess faults yourself
A few observations help distinguish software, wear and hardware problems.
How can I recognize a clogged or dirty fan?
Typical signs include much higher fan noise than before, strong heat, reduced performance under load, sudden throttling or shutdown and little airflow from the vents at the same time.
Dust on the outer vents is an indication but does not prove an internal blockage. If the fan scrapes, rattles or no longer spins, there may also be a mechanical defect.
Keep vents clear from the outside and do not operate the device on blankets, pillows or other soft surfaces. For thorough internal cleaning, the device should be opened properly.

How can I recognize a worn or defective battery?
Typical wear signs include much shorter runtime, rapid percentage jumps, sudden shutdown despite remaining charge, very slow charging or a device that only runs reliably on external power.
Strong heating or swelling are not normal wear signs; they are reasons to stop using and charging the device.
A weak battery is not automatically defective: background processes, high screen brightness, poor cellular reception or software problems can also increase power consumption.
Software or hardware fault – how can I tell the difference?
A software problem is more likely if the issue began after an update or app installation, occurs only in a specific app, or disappears after a restart, update or resetting a setting.
A hardware problem is more likely if the issue occurs regardless of app or operating system, began after a drop or liquid damage, a component is mechanically abnormal, or there are display faults, charging interruptions, unusual noises or strong heat.
A good first test is to restart, check for updates, rule out the problematic app and use manufacturer diagnostics where available. Back up personal data before performing major resets.

Why does my device become slow or hot?
Heat can result from heavy workloads, charging, gaming, video processing, background processes or high ambient temperatures. It becomes concerning if the device remains hot without an obvious workload, performance drops sharply or it shuts itself down.
For laptops and consoles, dust, blocked airflow, a weak fan or aged thermal materials are possible causes. On smartphones, apps, cellular activity, the battery or an internal fault may be involved.
How can I tell whether the charging port is actually broken?
First rule out the cable, charger and power outlet. If the plug still sits unusually loose, does not seat fully or only charges with sideways pressure, a dirty or damaged port is likely.
With USB-C and Lightning, tightly compacted debris can look like a broken port. Inspecting it with a light is useful; hard or metal tools do not belong inside the port.
Maintenance & prevention
A few simple habits prevent many common repair cases.
How do I keep laptops, consoles and handhelds clean?
Keep vents clear, avoid operating devices permanently on soft or very dusty surfaces and regularly remove visible dust from the outside. With pets or dusty environments, internal cleaning may be useful sooner.
Do not spray liquid cleaners directly into openings. During internal cleaning, fans and sensitive components must be handled carefully.
How do I preserve a lithium battery?
Above all, avoid strong heat. A battery ages faster when the device regularly becomes very hot or remains charging at high temperature for long periods.
You do not need to discharge the battery to 0% regularly. Modern lithium batteries generally benefit more from normal partial charging than deliberate full discharge cycles.
If the device offers a manufacturer charging limit or optimized charging and often stays plugged in, that feature can be useful.
When is cleaning enough instead of repair?
For stiff buttons, poor cooling, loud fans, charging issues caused by dirt or clogged speaker openings, cleaning may already be enough.
Mechanically broken parts, swollen batteries, damaged displays and electrically defective ports cannot be fixed by cleaning.
How often should I make backups?
As regularly as needed so that losing everything since the last backup would be acceptable to you. For important work or personal data, at least one current copy should exist outside the device.
A current backup is especially useful before repairs, operating-system updates, storage upgrades or when a fault begins to appear.
Useful technical knowledge
Terms that frequently come up with repairs, spare parts and accessories.
What is a privacy screen?
A privacy screen reduces the side viewing angle of a display. Someone looking from the side sees the content much darker or barely at all.
It is available as tempered glass or film and on some devices as an integrated display feature. Drawbacks can include lower brightness, restricted viewing angles and, depending on the product, slightly altered image quality.
A privacy screen only protects against side viewing – not malware, camera recordings or access to the device.

Original part, premium compatible or upgrade – what is the difference?
Original parts come through a manufacturer-specific or original supply route where available. High-quality compatible parts are replacement parts from other manufacturers designed for the respective device.
An upgrade deliberately changes the original configuration, for example Hall Effect or TMR sticks in a controller or additional RAM or SSD storage in a laptop.
Which option makes sense depends on the device, availability, price and desired result.
What do Hall Effect or TMR mean for controller sticks?
Both technologies can detect stick position magnetically without contact. This eliminates part of the mechanical wear found in traditional potentiometers that is often associated with stick drift.
This does not make a controller indestructible: springs, mechanics, solder joints, calibration and other components can still wear out.
When is a repair economically sensible?
Important factors are repair cost, device value, age, condition, value of the data and how long the device is likely to remain useful afterward.
For a high-quality or still useful device, repair can make sense even if it costs a noticeable share of the current used value. If several defects occur at the same time, replacement may be more economical.
If unsure, a diagnosis or cost assessment can be requested first.
Questions about ReparARTur
Shipping, parts, privacy and process.
Do I need to come in person?
No. Shipping remains available throughout Germany. In the Nuremberg, Fürth, Erlangen area and surroundings, you can also arrange a personal drop-off and later collection or a handover at an agreed location in advance.
Do you repair every device?
Nein. Der Fokus liegt auf planbaren Standardreparaturen, Reinigung, modularen Bauteilen und ausgewählten Upgrades. Komplexe Board-Level-Schäden werden nur individuell geprüft.
Can I get original parts?
If a suitable sourcing route exists for the device and repair and the part is available, a repair using an original part can be offered.
Can I use the Fürth repair bonus?
If you are an adult and your main residence is within the City of Fürth, an eligible repair may in principle qualify for the city's repair bonus. The city states 20% of repair costs up to €50 per person per calendar year. Further conditions apply, including a minimum invoice amount of €50, and funding is limited. Cleaning, maintenance, software updates and standalone replacement-parts or accessory purchases are not subsidized. Whether a specific application and invoice are accepted is decided solely by the City of Fürth.
Can insurance pay for the repair?
That depends entirely on your insurance policy and the insurer's approval. We can provide a repair estimate and suitable repair and invoice details, but we do not decide on reimbursement.
Do you need my device passcode?
Not in general. Many mechanical repairs do not require access to personal data. If unlocking is needed for a complete functional test, this is agreed in advance.
What happens if the repair becomes more expensive than expected?
Wenn sich nach Eingang ein anderer Fehler oder zusätzlicher Aufwand zeigt, wird die weitere Vorgehensweise vor zusätzlichen Arbeiten abgestimmt.
How should I package the device?
Pack it securely against impact, sized appropriately for the device and without unnecessary accessories. You will receive the specific shipping instructions after your request is confirmed.
Do you offer Hall-effect upgrades?
Ja, bei geeigneten Controller-Modellen. Besonders interessant ist das bei hochwertigen Controllern und wiederkehrendem Stick Drift.
